Task1:

Genre analysis, content analysis and narrative analysis

Genre analysis is how we define what the genre of film we are watching is.
for example, in sinister we see the different types of uses of instilling fear into the people watching at home such as the old home movies played depicting the deaths of the families that once lived in the house that the protagonists of the film moved to. These old home movies captured on reel (which adds to the eeriness as that means they are pretty old for the year that the film is based in) are accompanied by some very questionable pictures of a dark figure. Some information from a police officer reveals that the murders on the tapes are of real events that took place at different times across different countries and at each murder scene a child goes missing from the family. We later learn from a character in the film that the mysterious figure is actually a demon that manifests itself and kills entire families to take their children back to his realm and consume their souls.
All of this build-up leads the audience in and wants to know what the big finale will be and from the pictures becoming possessed to seeing the missing children watching the home movies in his attic the main protagonist goes through hell and back to give us a good scare. Just the type of content we'd expect to see from a horror film it was creepy and eerie from the get go and thats what leads in horror fanatics.

Reception study

reception study is an actively engaged audiences reaction to a text in order to give a certain meaning to said text rather than an audience that is passively engaged.

Fan study

Fan studies (or fandoms) consist of people who are major fans of certain types of texts who come together on things such as blogs and share their thoughts about the text. for example popular animes such as Tokyo Ghoul will have a big fan base and within that fan base fan studies will appear who will share their thoughts and opinions on the series with the other fans about the series.
